Xbox is Still Ticking

Riding off the coattails of one of Xbox’s strongest-ever games Showcases in recent memory, things have perked up a little for Microsoft’s gaming division. It’s a good thing too, as plenty of recent stumbles and mishaps have more than soured many fans’ outlook on the Xbox brand.

Despite the PS5’s mammoth success, there are still a few things PlayStation should copy from Xbox going forward. This may come as a surprise to those aware of the PS5 outselling Xbox consoles by almost three to one by the end of 2023. This is largely down to PlayStation having far superior first-party titles. Unfortunately for Xbox, their recent studio closures, first-party disappointments, and rumored migration of Game Pass to all hardware has comfortably placed PlayStation in the number one spot.

While it may seem everything is hunky-dory on the surface, there’s still a lot that Xbox does better than PlayStation. Whether it be nifty hardware features that improve the user experience, the far superior Game Pass online subscription service, or myriad other useful features, PlayStation could certainly take a few pages out of Xbox’s book. With the promise of new maps on the horizon, many fans hope that XDefiant will draw upon the impressive collection of locales from Ubisoft’s rich gaming history for future maps. XDefiant already has an impressive selection of maps and game modes for you to sink your teeth into. The 14 maps currently on offer grant players access to maps inspired by Ubisoft’s The Division, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs, to name a few.

However, players are itching to see more map variety for future content in the game’s upcoming seasons. With a huge library of games and IP to draw from, there is huge potential for a wider array of unique and interesting maps to battle in. While the map design itself has been generally praised, many seem to feel that Ubisoft is not tapping into the creative potential regarding the treasure trove of IP they are sitting on.

The upcoming release of Cat Quest 3 solidifies this as the definitive era for cats in video games. From titles such as Stray, Little Kitty Big City, and Nine Sols,  it seems that gamers can’t get enough of of these adorable furry little pawtagonists. As a self-professed cat lover with two magnificent ginger tabbies myself, I’m all for it.

Of course, The Gentlebros have been fur-crazy since their first Cat Quest game was released in 2017. Now, seven years later, Cat Quest 3 will mark the third entry in the developer’s feline-inclined action RPG series. After sinking a handful of hours into the preview build, I can safely say you don’t need to love cats to dig this game. It looks like it has enough going for it to please any fan of whimsical action adventures.
